Sometimes we meet extraordinary young people who shine despite their illness, and we know immediately that they are very special.
VinaCapital Foundation provides scholarships, mentoring, and academic support for select Heartbeat Vietnam kids who have demonstrated academic excellence and potential, even as they suffered from the effects of their congenital heart defect.
VinaCapital Foundation is committed to giving these children opportunities to build a better future for themselves that goes beyond the operating room.
Ho Thanh Nhan was our first Heartbeat Vietnam scholar. He is now 17 years old, speaks and writes excellent English, and is one of the top students in his school in Khanh Hoa province. With the support of VCF, starting in 2012, he began to study Computerized Assisted Drawing CAD, Architecture and Drafting to help his reach his goal to be an architect. In 2014, we will support him in an internship in Ho Chi Minh City with architecture and design companies in the city, as well as study for the university exam for architecture school.
Our commitment to Nhan and other HBVN scholars is through university and finding a job. They all have a very bright future ahead of them! Our students have varied goals, and several of them want to be doctors who can help children like the doctors who saved their lives. These children are a true joy to mentor, and because of their illness and years of uncertainty about their future, they have a spirit of determination not often seen in young people. They also are extremely grateful for their healthy life and to know that now they can have dreams and hopes for the future.
