The disadvantaged children are the greatest beneficiaries as the enthusiastic guests lined up to bid on donated auction items. A remarkable moment of the night was when the Buddha statue from Nepal was auctioned for over 174,000 USD. This statue was given to actress Ngo Thanh Van by a renowned Buddhist teacher, His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche during her trip to Nepal in early May. In addition, large contributions were also made for other 8 live and 40 silent auction items.

Over 350 distinguished guests attended the event, including sponsors, celebrities, and business men namely Mr. Don Lam – Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the VinaCapital Group; Mr. Pham Tan Nghia – CEO and President of Vietnam USA Society English Centers; Ms. June Le – Notebook Marketing Manager of ASUS Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Duy Khai from Perfetto Trading Total International, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuan – representative of Tuan Le Construction, together with musician Minh Khang and model Thuy Hanh, MC Phan Anh, model Xuan Lan, and so forth.

This year, “Fatherhood” was chosen to be the main theme of the Gala Night. According to Heartbeat Ambassador Ms. Ngo Thanh Van, this year’s theme is to express respect to fathers’ love and to give credit for them on the journey fighting against heart diseases with their children. A touching story about fatherhood was told via the short film “I love you… more” produced by Ms. Ngo Thanh Van and young director Binh Nguyen.

Mrs. Robin King Austin – CEO of VinaCapital Foundation emotionally asserted: “I actually remember the first time I had seen the feet of a field worker, cracked and rough, and forever scarred by mud deep in the crevices. I remember thinking that he was surely feeling cracks in his heart as deep as the ones in his poor feet. This year, we honor all of those fathers who adore their children and especially those with a scared and broken heart because their child has a heart defect”.

“Scar of Life” is a joint effort of Vietnam Artist Agency VAA and VinaCapital Foundation (VCF). All benefits from the Gala Night will directly contribute to a program of VCF – Heartbeat Vietnam which funds life-saving heart operations for the most financially disadvantaged children in 63 provinces of Vietnam.
