Ho Chi Minh City, April 14, 2015 – UPS and VinaCapital Foundation had ceremonies today to announce a UPS gift that will save the lives of as many as 30 disadvantaged children who have congenital heart defects and disease. The gift is to VinaCapital Foundation’s grassroots Heartbeat Vietnam program. The ceremony began at the VinaCapital Foundation offices and culminated at the hospital to celebrate with the young beneficiaries. This will be a UPS community development project for disadvantaged youth and targets the poorest children with congenital heart defects and disease for pre-operation care, open heart surgery and post operation follow-up. In addition to the surgeries, UPS staff will become involved in the lives of the little patients and their families in areas of nutrition, education, medical requirements and other critical factors that ensure the success of not only the surgical procedure but the child’s long term future. UPS, through Heartbeat Vietnam, will remain in contact with each child and family. This is the second time UPS has supported Heartbeat Vietnam.
Hospital care and surgical procedures provided by UPS for these sick young children begin immediately. Mr. Jeff McLean, UPS Managing Director for Vietnam, states regarding this new funding initiative, “UPS has a legacy of connecting and improving communities around the world. We are pleased to be supporting VinaCapital Foundation for the second year. The grant will assist in providing surgeries for underprivileged and sick children, while also contributing towards improving their families’ quality of life in the future.” UPS has a long history, both internationally as well as in Vietnam, of employing financial and human resources to support social programs that change lives and improve communities.
VinaCapital Foundation CEO, Robin King Austin, adds, “With thousands of poor children languishing, waiting for life saving heart surgery, UPS’s concern and generosity, is most appreciated. It is an honor to work with UPS again in this important effort that saves lives. On behalf of VinaCapital Foundation, our Board and the children’s families, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Jeff McLean and the UPS Vietnam team for their support.” VinaCapital Foundation’s Heartbeat Vietnam program operates in 63 provinces to locate poor children suffering from congenital Heart defects and disease and then works with corporate, government and individual partners to provide surgeries and improve children’s lives, assist their families financially and improve communities.
