In May 2022, ExxonMobil Vietnam and VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) donated 13 pieces of essential neonatal care medical equipment valued at US$25,000 to 2 rural district hospitals of Quang Nam province. This donation is implemented under VCF’s Survive to Thrive program, which aims to reduce infant and maternal mortality in rural Vietnam by providing critical neonatal care equipment and training.

The handover ceremony was honored to welcome the presence of distinguished guests: Mr. Nguyen Dang Chuong – Vice Chairman of Nam Giang District People’s Committee, Specialist Level 2 Doctor Chrum Thanh Vom – Director of Nam Giang District Hospital, Dr. Nguyen Huu Long – Director of Phuoc Son District Hospital, with Miss Nguyen Hoang Thien Tam – Manager of Survive to Thrive program, VinaCapital Foundation and Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Director of Capacity Building programs, VinaCapital Foundation.

With the support from ExxonMobil Vietnam, VCF was pleased to present 2 continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, 4 jaundice lamps, 2 infusion pumps, and 5 electric syringes to the hospitals of Nam Giang and Phuoc Son districts. These devices will help complete the neonatal unit at Nam Giang and Phuoc Son district hospitals, where ethnic minorities make up the majority of the province. Through the provision of this equipment, along with necessary training to operate the equipment, doctors, nurses, and other medical staff of Nam Giang and Phuoc Son health centers will be able to perform basic and emergency health care for babies and mothers. This will help to ensure that children will grow up healthier, closing the wide gap in infant mortality and improving health indicators.

“ExxonMobil is committed to being a valuable member of the communities where it operates”, said Cecile Rauline, President and General Director of ExxonMobil Vietnam. “We invest in community projects that have a lasting impact on the communities where we live and work. We hope that this equipment provided through our good friends at VinaCapital Foundation will help make a difference in the health and lives of many children and people in Nam Giang and Phuoc Son district areas”.

“I want to express my deepest appreciation to ExxonMobil Vietnam, the government leaders of Quang Nam, and all medical personnel of Nam Giang and Phuoc Son district hospitals for their enthusiastic support and cooperation in implementing this ongoing program in poor ethnic districts”, states Mr. Rad Kivette CEO of VinaCapital Foundation, “With the invaluable support of ExxonMobil Vietnam over the past 10 years – for which we are very grateful, Nam Giang and Phuoc Son district hospitals have been and will continue to use this equipment effectively in their noble efforts to protect our children and mothers from preventable deaths and providing benefits for a healthier more productive generation to come.”

ExxonMobil is a dedicated supporter of the VinaCapital Foundation’s Survive to Thrive and Critical Response programs. Since 2011, with a total donation of over US$650,000 from ExxonMobil, these programs have been able to train hundreds of healthcare workers in Advanced Pediatric Life Support and provide life-saving medical equipment to hospitals in Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai provinces.

The VinaCapital Foundation’s Survive to Thrive program aims to reduce infant mortality in all of Vietnam, especially in the underserved central provinces through the provision of critically needed neonatal equipment and training. During the past 13 years, the Survive to Thrive program has donated 293 pieces of medical equipment to 10 provinces, helping to treat and save the lives of 122,646 children in Vietnam.
