“Our Hearts To Central Vietnam” Campaign Closing Ceremony in Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province

On the morning of March 10, 2022, VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) organized the closing ceremony of disaster relief activities of the “Our Hearts to Central Vietnam” Campaign in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province. The campaign has assisted the disaster recovery process in Nam Tra My district with the restoration of 3 battered rural commune healthcare centers (CHC) and the district hospital, providing 4 mobile healthcare clinics in 4 communes as well as medical equipment and water filtration systems to 11 medical facilities of the district. The activities are implemented under the Critical Response and Survive to Thrive programs of VCF thanks to the generous donations from individuals, companies, and other organizations.

The closing ceremony is honored to welcome Mr. Tran Quoc An – Deputy Director of the Center for Consulting and Serving External Relations Department of Quang Nam Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Tran Van Man – Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My District People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Binh – Chief of Staff of Nam Tra My District People’s Committee; First Degree Specialist Doctor Tran Van Thu – Director of Nam Tra My district hospital; Ms. Vu Thi Hue – Communications Manager of ExxonMobil Vietnam; and Mr. Rad Kivette, CEO of The VinaCapital Foundation.

In 2020, Quang Nam province was heavily damaged by 7 weeks of continuous tropical storm flooding and 2 typhoons, especially Nam Tra My district. The storms destroyed much of the healthcare infrastructure provided by the 11 medical facilities in this district that serve 27,297 people, about 15,000 of whom are children under 20 years of age. Each CHC serves about 2,500 residents and each center serves about 400 patients per month.

Since October 2020, VCF’s Our Hearts to Central Vietnam Campaign, organized to call for donations to support thousands of people in the affected regions, has successfully raised over 5,6 billion VND (an equivalent of 250,000 USD). In November 2020, the campaign provided 12,000 people with emergency relief packages of basic food and necessities. From January 2021, the campaign focused on rebuilding medical infrastructure and providing mobile healthcare clinics in Nam Tra My district. The structural repairs were implemented at the district hospital and 3 other CHCs in Tra Cang, Tra Don, and Tra Leng communes. Four mobile clinics in Tra Leng, Tra Van, Tra Nam, and Tra Tap communes have provided free health examinations for 3,133 children and adults in rural areas. The provision of clean water filtration systems and a standard kit of medical equipment has been delivered to all 11 medical facilities of the district.

In addition, Mr. Phil Jordan and his family donate USD 10,120 to the Survive to Thrive program – VCF to provide 1 neonatal resuscitation system, 1 jaundice light, and 1 SPO2 oximeter for the neonatal unit of Nam Tra My district hospital. The medical aid will ensure a reduction in mortality and healthier children in the district.

“Quang Nam has long been a focus area of VCF’s programs, so the call from the People’s Committee of Quang Nam to mobilize public support to recover after the disaster was one we were ready to answer through the campaign.”, states Mr. Rad Kivette, CEO of VinaCapital Foundation, “Over the last 10 years, VCF has provided equipment and emergency medical training to district healthcare facilities in Quang Nam province. Nam Tra My has always been our priority as this district is heavily ethnic, impoverished, the population is often remotely located with living conditions and education levels that are far below standard. The campaign aims to ensure our commitments in providing quality public healthcare for everyone regardless of the location or ethnicity.”

With the implementation of the Our Hearts to Central Vietnam Campaign, VCF continues to improve the lives of disadvantaged children, empowering mothers and families for a more sustainable, healthier, and brighter future for all.
