2020 Central Vietnam Disaster Relief

Overview

From October to November 2020, constant typhoons with heavy rains caused the highest flood levels in the past 100 years, pushing people in the provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Nam to live with heavy flooding, massive landslides, destroyed infrastructure, damaged houses, and extremely dangerous living conditions. Eight storm disasters killed hundreds of people and left hundreds of thousands of people to barely survive with no food or clean water, no shelter, crops lost, animals drowned and family members missing. In order to urgently assist the suffering communities in the central provinces, especially residents who experienced catastrophic landslides in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam, VinaCapital Foundation organized the campaign “Our Hearts to Central Vietnam” from October 2020 to January 2021, raising 250,000 USD to implement two phases of relief activities.

Phase 1

Organized within 5 days of the first week of the disaster campaign, the “Our Hearts To Central Vietnam” fundraising concert successfully raised 296,670,000 VND with the participation of more than 200 supporters and performances from Singer Phuong Vy, Actor/ Singer Lam Vissay, singer Y Kroc & rapper Benjamin, Korean violinist Jmi Ko, singer Jang Mi and Carol Thao My.

Provided 12,000 people with emergency relief packages of basic food and necessities to ensure survivors’ short-term health until more sustainable assistance arrived. The package’s value was a total of 70,000 USD.

Phase 2

The campaign’s main focuses in Nam Tra My district is the restoration of 10 battered rural commune healthcare centers, the district hospital and 30,000 people who suffer.
