In early February 2026, as Lunar New Year approached, Giang’s* family was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new member. But her journey through childbirth took an unexpected turn.

Her pregnancy had gone past the due date, while the journey to the nearest higher-level hospital would take more than an hour. With the baby at risk of distress and oxygen deprivation, doctors at Tri Ton Medical Center in An Giang made the urgent decision to perform a C-section locally.

Baby Minh* was born without crying or breathing on his own, his tiny body turning blue from a lack of oxygen. The medical team immediately initiated neonatal resuscitation. He was placed under a radiant warmer to maintain his body temperature, while his airway was cleared to help him begin breathing. Throughout the resuscitation, his SpO₂ (blood oxygen saturation) was continuously monitored, allowing the medical team to assess his condition and adjust care promptly.

Then, Minh’s first cry finally filled the room. After those tense moments, his skin gradually regained its healthy color, and his breathing slowly stabilized.

After seven days of treatment, baby Minh had recovered and was well enough to return home – just in time to celebrate his first Lunar New Year surrounded by the love of his family.

Behind this precious moment were not only essential medical equipment, but also the knowledge and skills of the healthcare team. Earlier, in December 2025, VinaCapital Foundation conducted a neonatal resuscitation training course for healthcare workers at Tri Ton Medical Center, with clinical training provided by specialists from An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. The training helped strengthen the local team’s knowledge and practical skills, preparing them to respond to neonatal emergencies when every second counts.

Minh is one of 5,133 babies whose lives have been saved and who have received successful treatment through medical equipment and professional training supported by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City through VinaCapital Foundation’s Survive to Thrive program.

VinaCapital Foundation sincerely thanks the German Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City or its steadfast partnership with the program over the past four years. This invaluable support has helped strengthen neonatal care and emergency response capacity in underserved communities, enabling more babies to receive timely care and have the chance to grow up healthy alongside their families.
