Newborns, especially premature babies, are at high risk of developing serious complications after birth, posing direct threats to their survival and long-term development. Helping these infants survive such critical moments requires timely access to essential neonatal medical equipment and a team of experienced healthcare professionals.
For the past 15 years, the Survive to Thrive program has tirelessly worked to build a foundation of equitable healthcare access for all babies, regardless of where they are born. This is especially vital in mountainous and remote areas, where transportation and access to medical services remain extremely limited. Thanks to these sustained efforts, the program has helped bring life and health to more than 56,000 children across Vietnam.

Long, a baby boy of the Nung ethnic group, was born in April 2025 at the Hoang Su Phi Regional General Hospital. He came into the world at just 32 weeks, weighing only 1.7 kilograms. Due to his prematurity and fragile condition, Long quickly developed respiratory distress, a life-threatening complication. However, thanks to the timely intervention of dedicated doctors and the support of CPAP breathing equipment, Long was able to breathe independently after nine days of resilient struggle. Just as he began to recover, Long faced another challenge: neonatal jaundice. Once again, with the help of modern equipment—such as a warming bed and double-sided phototherapy lights—and the attentive care of medical staff, Long made a quick and full recovery. His first days of life were filled with hardship, but also with hope, compassion, and unwavering care.
The recovery of babies like Long is a powerful reminder of the vital importance of neonatal medical equipment and dedicated healthcare personnel in the mission to protect the most vulnerable lives. The Survive to Thrive program extends its deepest gratitude to the German Embassy in Hanoi, a steadfast partner that has helped restore life to premature infants in the district of Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang Province.
