On December 12, 2025 , the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City and the VinaCapital Foundation’s (VCF) Survive To Thrive program organized a ceremony to donate essential neonatal medical equipment to Tri Ton Medical Center in An Giang province. This marks a fourth consecutive year in which the German Consulate and VCF’s Survive To Thrive program have joined hands to help protect the lives of newborns and premature infants in remote and disadvantaged areas of Vietnam.

As part of its steadfast commitment, the project equipped Tri Ton Medical Center with 33 pieces of neonatal medical equipment and organized a certified neonatal resuscitation training course to enhance the professional capacity of its staff.

The equipment was allocated across departments as follows:

  • Department of Obstetrics: one gurney, one ambu bag, one crash cart, one pulse oximeter, one fetal monitor, one intubation kit, one digital infant scale, seven doppler fetal monitors, three portable phlegm suction units, one infant bathing system, one electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, and one infant warmer with phototherapy.
  • Department of Pediatrics: one ambu bag, one pulse oximeter, four nebulizers, two neonatal intubation kits, one transcutaneous bilirubinometer, and one double phototherapy unit.
  • Department of Laboratory Medicine: one urine analyzer, one semi-automated coagulation analyzer, and one centrifuge machine (12-placer).

This support is especially vital for Tri Ton Medical Center in An Giang province, located in one of the 74 poorest districts nationwide under the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 353/QD-TTg. Home to 134,000 residents – nearly 34% of whom are Khmer, Tri Ton faces significant challenges. At Tri Ton Medical Center, aging infrastructure and outdated medical equipment hinder the center’s capacity to meet rising healthcare needs, especially for children and the elderly.

On top of that, the nearest higher-level hospital is over 54 km away, compounding the challenges to getting timely treatment. Immediate support and investment, therefore, are critical to ensure accessible, effective care for this vulnerable, underserved population.

With the provision of neonatal medical equipment and hands-on training for its utilization, healthcare professionals at local medical centers in mountainous regions like Tri Ton are now better equipped to deliver life-saving care for newborns from their very first moments of life.

“Germany is committed to supporting Vietnam’s development goals through knowledge transfer, innovation, and sustainable partnerships like the one with VinaCapital Foundation and An Giang province. Vietnam is on a path towards becoming a high-income country, and Germany, with its strengths in high-technology and its renowned education system, is a natural partner for this New Era” by Mr. Christopher Scholl, Deputy Consul General of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City.

“It is a great honor for VinaCapital Foundation to partner with the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to strengthen neonatal care in local clinics and health centers. We firmly believe healthy mothers and children are the foundation of every strong community, and families in underserved ethnic minority areas such as Tri Ton deserve the same access to quality healthcare as anyone else. VCF seeks to see families across Vietnam healthy and surviving and thriving,” shared Mr. Rad Kivette, CEO of the VinaCapital Foundation.

Since its inception in 2010, VCF’s Survive To Thrive program has donated 798 pieces of neonatal care equipment, helping to treat over 65,000 premature and newborn babies in neonatal intensive care units of 90 hospitals and healthcare facilities across 22 provinces.
