Each year, about 2.500 Vietnamese children under the age of 19 are newly diagnosed with cancer and join the 40.000 children who are already being treated. According to the World Health Organization, in high-income countries, more than 80% of children with cancer are cured but in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) including Vietnam, less than 30% are cured.
Reasons for lower survival rates in LMICs include delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis, inaccessible therapy (essential medicines and technology), treatment abandonment, death from toxicity (side effects), and avoidable relapse.
The incidence of childhood cancer in Vietnam is on the rise, yet there is a deficiency in national resources to offer adequate treatment and assistance to these children and their families. There are shortages of specialized healthcare facilities and personnel, including oncologists and specialized cancer nurses, especially in rural areas.
Recognizing the critical gaps and the dire consequences for affected children and families, The VinaCapital Foundation introduce “Can-Clover” – a special program aiming to support impoverished pediatric cancer patients.

With Can-Clover, VinaCapital Foundation intends to provide comprehensive support to little cancer patients through 4 pillars:
- Financial support for medical treatment
- Psycho-social support
- Specialized oncologist training
- Early detection awareness

Clover – a symbol of luck with the four heart-shaped leaves representing faith, hope, love and luck. “Can-Clover” intends to bring all the best things to the cancer children like a clover is believed to bring luck and ward of illness for those who receive it. More than that, when the kids feel loved and cared through family and community support, they gain more hope and strength in their journey of fighting cancer.

The Can-Clover embraces a holistic approach to pediatric cancer, not only to provide financial support of medical treatment for impoverished patients but also improve psychological well-being for the children and their families, enhance capacity in pediatric cancer care; raise awareness on early detection in the community.
