On May 29, 2026, Survive to Thrive, a program of VinaCapital Foundation (VCF), together with KMS Technology, has donated 10 essential neonatal medical devices to Tuy Duc Regional Medical Center in Lam Dong Province, while also organizing neonatal and pediatric emergency resuscitation training for local healthcare staff. The project aims to strengthen the professional capacity of frontline healthcare workers and improve the quality of neonatal care in this underserved border area.

The donated equipment includes a patient monitor, suction machine, intubation set, resuscitation bag, SPO2 monitor, phototherapy lamp, infant warmer, fetal monitor, infusion pump, and Doppler device. These are all essential tools that support emergency response, monitoring, and treatment for newborns and mothers in critical conditions.

Tuy Duc Regional Medical Center is located in Tuy Duc Commune, a mountainous border area in the western part of the former Dak Nong Province, now part of Lam Dong Province. The area continues to face significant economic and transportation challenges, particularly for ethnic minority communities, who make up approximately 43.7% of the local population, including the M’nong, H’Mong, Tay, Nung, and Dao ethnic groups.

According to Vietnam’s General Statistics Office, the neonatal mortality rate in the area in 2024 was 19.05 per 1,000 live births, approximately 1.5 times higher than the national average. Most pediatric and maternal patients come from disadvantaged backgrounds, living 15 to 40 kilometers away from healthcare facilities, making access to medical services difficult. In addition to geographical barriers, traditional practices and limited awareness, such as home births, child marriage, and spiritual healing practices, continue to significantly impact maternal and child healthcare.

In many cases, when newborns experience severe complications or when the medical center lacks the necessary equipment for timely intervention, patients must be transferred to higher-level hospitals. However, the journey can take nearly two hours to reach a provincial-level facility and up to six hours to reach specialized hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, creating serious risks and potentially causing newborns to lose the critical “golden hour” for lifesaving treatment.

As a result, Tuy Duc Regional Medical Center continues to receive and treat a large number of mothers and pediatric patients despite limited access to modern medical equipment. Through this initiative, the donated equipment and specialized training program are expected to strengthen neonatal emergency and care capacity at the local level, enabling healthcare workers to respond more effectively to critical cases.

To date, with the support of KMS Technology, Survive to Thrive, a program of VinaCapital Foundation, has implemented multiple projects providing neonatal medical equipment and pediatric-neonatal emergency resuscitation training for healthcare workers in underserved communities across Vietnam. These initiatives include the donation of 32 essential neonatal medical devices to Yen Minh District General Hospital and Xin Man District General Hospital in Tuyen QuangProvince; 12 essential neonatal medical devices to Nam Tra My District Medical Center in Danang city; and most recently, 10 essential medical devices and a neonatal-pediatric emergency resuscitation training course for healthcare workers at Tuy Duc Regional Medical Center in Lam Dong Province.

Through these projects, KMS Technology and Survive to Thrive hope to improve the quality of neonatal care in remote and underserved areas, support local healthcare workers with access to modern medical equipment and essential professional training, and ultimately provide more Vietnamese children with timely access to lifesaving care and healthier beginnings in life.
