In an effort to assist the community in this fight against the pandemic, HSBC Vietnam donated 160,000 USD to the “Help Vietnam Breathe – Vì Nhịp thở Việt Nam” campaign – VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) to carry out emergency Covid-19 response projects. Thanks to this valuable contribution, on 22nd August, VCF handed over 01 ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine to a frontline hospital that provided treatment to COVID-19 patients in HCMC. The immediate deployment of this equipment is believed to save more patients’ lives and assist healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19. In the coming weeks, there will be more equipment providing to hospitals as part of this ongoing support from HSBC Vietnam.
Since 2014, HSBC has greatly contributed to all VCF programs. HSBC and VCF have supported 37 children with congenital heart defects to undergo surgery, helped examine more than 10,000 children through Outreach Clinics, provided scholarships to 75 ethnic minority girls, trained 124 health workers, and brought clean water to more than 600,000 people in remote provinces and was one of the main donors to our disaster relief activities in Central Vietnam in 2020. This Covid-19 emergency donation is a testament to HSBC’s continuous commitment to accompanying VCF to improve the country’s medical capacity as well as to bring urgent assistance to the most vulnerable people during the pandemic.
As the COVID-19 pandemic prolongs and the number of newly infected cases increases dramatically, especially in Ho Chi Minh City, VCF implemented the program “Help Vietnam Breathe – Vì Nhịp Thở Việt Nam” to raise funds for purchasing essential pandemic-fighting medical equipment and supplies for frontline medical facilities. After one month, the campaign has successfully raised over 15 billion VND and donated 45 critically needed ventilators to Covid-19 treatment hospitals in HCMC, Long An province, and Can Tho province in addition to the ECMO machine handed over on Sunday. Additional ventilators will be deployed this week and next.
VinaCapital Foundation continues to call for donations to bring more ventilators and personal protective equipment to hospitals in need. Together, we can join hands to Help Vietnam Breathe and assist the healthcare system to overcome the pandemic.
