On April 26, 2024, Sanofi Vietnam and the VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) have joined forces to implement the Rural Outreach Clinics and Flu Vaccination Program across Quang Binh, Dak Lak, and Lam Dong provinces from April to July 2024. This initiative aims to provide children in rural areas with the opportunity for early detection of congenital heart defects (CHD), while also sponsoring the vaccination of 800 doses of flu vaccine for children and the elderly residing in remote areas. The joint program launched in Truong Xuan commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province, in collaboration with the Provincial Association for the Support of Poor Patients of Quang Binh, Hoan My Da Nang Hospital, and the Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company.

In Quang Binh, VCF organized congenital heart defects (CHD) screenings for children in Truong Xuan commune, identified children with congenital heart disease and children recommended for surgery. Information and records of children facing challenging medical circumstances, requiring intervention or surgery, are forwarded immediately to the Heartbeat Vietnam program under VCF for priority support for free heart surgery along with pre and post surgery assistance.

Additionally, the program partners with VNVC to administer 300 doses of flu vaccine to children and the elderly in Truong Xuan commune, contributing to public health protection and community health enhancement at the local level.

Mr. Burak Pekmezci, General Manager of Sanofi Vaccines – Vietnam and Cambodia, stated: “In the past year, Sanofi has provided approximately 7 million doses of vaccines, protecting people of all ages, from children to adolescents and adults, from dangerous infectious diseases. It is an honor for Sanofi to accompany the VinaCapital Foundation in this series of activities, so that together we can bring protection to hundreds of people in disadvantaged areas from the flu through vaccination campaigns and other essential medical support.”

Mr. Rad Kivette, CEO of VinaCapital Foundation, states, “Every year, approximately 1% of all live births are born with CHD. Without timely detection and treatment, 85% of these children will not survive beyond the age of 18. VCF has been committed to provide help for these children through Rural Outreach Clinics program since 2007, thus offering free heart screenings and early CHD detection for children in rural, remote, ethnic minority, and mountainous areas to provide them with the earliest opportunity for a healthy heart. We sincerely appreciate Sanofi Vietnam’s profound understanding of the objectives of the Rural Outreach Clinic. Their support for flu prevention through vaccination for children and the elderly facing challenging circumstances focuses on the 2 most vulnerable groups – children and the elderly. We extend our gratitude to the collaborative efforts from the Quang Binh Province’s government and the Provincial Association for the Support of Poor Patients, Hoan My Da Nang Hospital, and the Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company for assisting Sanofi and VCF in the effort to improve lives and livelihoods.

Sanofi Vietnam and VCF will continue to bring mobile clinics to provide heart screening for children and flu vaccination in Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces, scheduled for June and July 2024.
