On August 17 & 18, 2023, the VinaCapital Foundation’s (VCF) Survive to Thrive program collaborated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai Province to implement advanced pediatric resuscitation training courses for 25 healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, and midwives, from Son Tay District Medical Center and 9 medical stations in 9 communes within Son Tay District.
The training program consisted of 9 in-depth topics: basic neonatal resuscitation; screening and diagnosis of congenital heart defects; management of foreign body airway obstruction; emergency care for septic shock, drowning, bee stings, snake bites, and hands-on practice on medical equipment in the obstetrics department. The topics were directly instructed by doctors from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Emergency Department of Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children.
Son Tay is a mountainous district in Quang Ngai Province, which still faces many challenges and is one of the 74 poorest districts in the country. The assistance provided by the Survive to Thrive program will empower the local medical team with additional resources to effectively treat and provide essential healthcare services to over 15,000 residents, including approximately 5,000 children under the age of 16.
This marks the second time that Son Tay District Health Center has received support from the Survive to Thrive Program. The advanced pediatric resuscitation training course focuses on specially designed topics that directly address the daily practical needs of healthcare professionals in the region. The training is made possible through the generous financial support of EXXONMOBIL.
